Kimba-Jo Farm Trip Learning Story

Learner: Kimba-Jo          Learning Coach: Bex Remington          Date: 10 June 2015
Learning Area: iExperience - Farm Trip (Science)
Learning Observed
On our recent farm trip the learners were given the opportunity to have a try at dredging a calf.  They told us this needs to be done regularly to stop the calves getting sick.  After watching a couple of other learners try this out Kimba-Jo was keen to try herself. She had to stand up next to the calves and squirt the liquid along the calves back - one after the other.  Kimba-Jo was also able to pat the calves and mentioned how hot their bodies felt.  She said it was very hard to control the dredging gun!

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Kimba-Jo was willing to try something new and this showed she was curious to find out what dredging the calf would be like and was willing to participate and contribute to the experience.  She also asked a lot of questions about what she was doing and why demonstrating the skill of thinking.
Next Learning Steps
  • To think of a new hands on experience she has never tried and look at how she could make that happen
  • iExplore the process and why’s behind dredging
  • Write a recount of her experience at the Farm
