Kimba-Jo began blogging in Term 3. Her blog has various posts on a diverse range of topics and she also has a number of comments from her blog buddy and other classmates. We spent time learning to write quality comments using a ‘comment sandwich’ and Nisita is developing her capability to do this on her blog buddy’s blog and thus can connect authentically with other learners. Kimba-Jo’s posts are evidence of how she connects with the things in which she enjoys, whether at home or at school. She has learned to embed images into posts which enhances their readability. Kimba-Jo has enjoyed reading our Learning Habitat 1 blog as well and has collaborated to construct some posts with her hapu group. It has been fantastic to review Kimba-Jo’s posts since the beginning of term 4 to see how her capability at writing is improving. Some posts of interest were her ‘Adventures at the Zoo, ‘What I want to do for Xmas’ and ‘Hallowe’en’ posts because her passion, values and sense of adventure are evident. She regularly blogs and I encourage her to try some different styles of poems and genres of writing. I would also now encourage Kimba-Jo to co-construct blog posts over the holidays with her family and continue to visit classmates blogs to leave comments.
